A Forward Look for ASTP

As the newly elected President of ASTP, I am very pleased to underline the achievements of my predecessors, carried out in close collaboration with practitioner volunteers and the very professional HQ team.

Over the last year, the association has registered over 1000 members, delivered 13 different training courses that trained over 600 professionals. The dynamism of the community is also exemplified by Special Interest Groups, such as the SSHA which has organised several site visits over the year.

Finally, ASTP contributed to the visibility and recognition of the profession, at an EU level, through several initiatives, not least the meeting hosted by the Joint Research Council (JRC) in Brussels that gathered representatives of EC and national KTT communities to discuss new measures for Embedding KTOs in Horizon Europe.

While reading Tom Hockaday’s recent book, University Technology Transfer, What It Is and How to Do It, I note:

“Technology transfer involves supporting the development of new products and services that address the needs of tomorrow’s society. Technology transfer itself needs to challenge itself and remain fit for purpose.”
